CHK AMERICA TO DESIGN PASADENA BICYCLE MAP
SANTA BARBARA, CA (9 January, 2004)
Santa Barbara based CHK America is to assist the City of Pasadena
in the design of a new bicycle map that will include the entire
city limits and surrounding areas, including details of the new
Metro Gold Line. That announcement was made today by Stephen T.
Parry, National Sales Manager, CHK America.
The City of Pasadena adopted the Bicycle Master Plan in November
2000 to evaluate the City's existing facilities and recommend improvements.
As part of the plan, the City will inform the public of the city's
cycle paths by issuing the new maps with street ratings for bicycles,
and details of public transportation for combining cycle trips with
rail transit options.
CHK America will develop a conveniently sized, folded map product
for use by cyclists, extending beyond the city limits to the unincorporated
areas of Altadena and Lamanda Park. The map will include the city's
current bike lanes: Class II bike lanes for the exclusive use of
bicycles at the edge of the roadway, designated with special signage
and pavement marking; and Class III bike lanes, bike routes and
roadways recommended for bicycle use that often connect to bike
lanes, designated with signs only. To encourage cyclists to access
the city using public transit, the new maps will highlight the new
Metro Gold Line Stations.
In addition to Bicycle safety rules and tips, the maps will also
include the Huntington Library, parks and recreation sites, civic
attractions, locations with lockers, and other landmarks.
"This new map offers residents and visitors alike a convenient
pocket-sized reference for discovering Pasadena by bicycle,"
announced Parry.
